The International Tennis Federation (ITF) said on Friday that a player's performance at a women's tournament in Nairobi, where she participated on a wildcard, was 'unacceptable' for a World Tennis Tour-level event. The ITF stated it would review its wildcard procedures process. 'As the governing body, we have a responsibility to ensure a high standard of play, and the performance in Nairobi was unacceptable,' an ITF spokesperson said. These comments came after a first-round match at an ITF-sanctioned tournament in Kenya that went viral. Egyptian Hager Abdelkader, who received a wildcard, lost 0-6, 0-6 in just 37 minutes. She committed 20 double faults on serve and appeared unfamiliar with the basic elements of the game, prompting organizers to say she should not have been granted a wildcard.
